Late last year VETERNUS announced its existence with the demo tape, "Perpetual Insanity". Barring the fact that there are two pressings of the demo, copies are scarce. Nevertheless, they did well enough to attract attention from Detest Records, one of the youngest, and best, labels for Death Metal today. Continuing where they left off on "Perpetual Insanity", VETERNUS improve on their dark brand of Death Metal with mid-paced riffs, crushing drums, and haunting vocal patterns not unlike the sort pioneered by bands such as OBSCURITY. The guitars wail like tormented banshees, reminding one, perhaps, of Trey Azagthoth in his younger days. Interestingly, VETERNUS' drummer, P. Possessed is the same P. who drummed for LAMENTATION before they split up. Those of you who had the privilege of hearing LAMENTATION should know how capable he is for this kind of music, and he does indeed do a great job on this newest VETERNUS single. Here's a bit of an irregularity: a Swedish band that would rather not sound so Swedish. Like many of the new, young Death Metal bands from Sweden, GRAVEHAMMER writes music without geography in mind. In some places they sound rather like OBSCURITY - a Swedish band, but one that didn't sound remotely like any other Swedish band before or since, and would prove to be a global influence on the Metal world. The vast majority of the songs takes after the Americans more than anything else, particularly early MORBID ANGEL and NECROVORE. The first 500 copies of GRAVEHAMMER 7" are now gone. Therefore I've just received another batch of 400 copies which look EXACTLY the same that the first run!

Talking about MIASMAL, I remind you that they'll play at the upcoming Nuclear War Now! Fest in Berlin in November.



I will attend Kill Town Death Fest in Copenhagen in September with a stall. At this occasion, I'll release 3 new 7": MORBUS CHRON, VETERNUS and ... surprise! Do not worry, none of these releases will be sold out after the fest! I will also have MIASMAL, KRYPTS, etc. shirts for sale.

I wish to inform you that I've just received a large bunch of copies of the new issue of Mystical Music Zine. This 15th issue is nothing but outstanding with interviews of DISMEMBER, GRAVE, EDGE OF SANITY, PUNGENT STENCH, GRAVE MIASMA, REPUGNANT, STENCH OF DECAY, MASSACRE and so on! The zine comes with a cd sampler featuring among others NOMINON, HORRENDOUS, GRAVE MIASMA and DESULTORY + an A3 poster!

Following the demise of old-school Swedish behemoths CARNAGE, vocalist and living Death Metal legend Johan Liiva formed DEVOURMENT. These extremely rare tracks form the only surviving recording documenting the band's existence; an impossibly dark-sounding rehearsal session featuring two songs of Swedeath, done the ancient way. Also worth noting is that some of the other band members later went on to become Furbowl. A true necrotic feast in its own right, and a slice of musical history craving its place in the collection of every Death Metal enthusiast!
